How inventory quantities work
Quantity represents current on-hand stock.
On-hand changes only through Movements:
Receiving (inbound) increases on-hand.
Issuing (outbound) decreases on-hand.
This design ensures every stock change is backed by a movement document (audit trail).
Typical workflow (day-to-day)
Use Search or filters to locate an item quickly (SKU, barcode, or name).
Use Low / Out tabs to identify replenishment needs.
Add new items as your catalog grows (Add inventory item).
Use Movements to receive or issue stock, then return to Inventory to confirm updated on-hand.
Notes & best practices
Use consistent SKU conventions (e.g., prefix by category or brand) to improve scanning and searching.
Add barcodes whenever possible if you use barcode scanners in receiving/sales.
Keep categories and units standardized so exports and printed reports remain clean.
Troubleshooting
“Quantity is 0 but I have stock”: record an inbound movement (Receiving) to add stock; do not manually edit quantity from inventory.
Navigation to item details
Click the item name in the table to open the Item Details view (documented next). This view provides a complete snapshot of the item (SKU, barcode, category, unit, reorder point, and on-hand status) and includes the item’s Movement History, where you can review all inbound and outbound transactions, filter by date/type/partner, and export or print the item’s movement log for auditing.
